CARMEN

LA VERONAL & ROYAL DANISH BALLET 2018

Carmen is a liberated woman. She lives out her passions while remaining unmoved by the limitations society imposes on women. Witness the brand new ballet about the girl from the tobacco factory. This world premiere takes place on The Old Stage. The entire Royal Danish Orchestra is playing the famous music of Georges Bizet and the tailors of The Royal Danish Theatre have turned up the volume of the drama with their grandiose costumes.

As his point of departure, the celebrated Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau uses the original novel by Prosper Mérimée in which the man is unable to give freedom to his beloved and he thence initiates a dramatic descent into hell driven by the most profound instincts of passion and vengeance.

Morau has his own distinctive style. He reframes the narrative and changes the course of events, which is witnessed by the audience. Reality, gender and fiction can be affected when we take control ourselves. Fiction can provide us with a second chance, which rarely happens in real life.
