ORFEO ED EURIDICE

TANS LUZERN THEATER & LA VERONAL 2019

«Don’t look back!»

He looked back. He shouldn’t have. Orpheus, singer-songwriter of ancient Greece, did it anyway. What might have been going through his head while he turned to Eurydice, spoiling their great love forever?

Ever since Eurydice has been swallowed up by the land of the dead, Orpheus is grieving. Amor promises to release her – under two conditions: Orpheus shall appease the furies of the underworld with song. And when Eurydice sets foot on the land of the living again, he may not, under any circumstances, look back. An easy task for him. He is, after all, a singer. But he cannot withstand the lamentations of his wife. When he turns to her, desperately, she dies yet another time. Orpheus, the rule breaker. Goodbye, my love… Forever?

«Tanz Luzerner Theater» and the Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau dare an experiment of multiple perspectives. Dance ensemble, Lucerne Symphonic Orchestra, opera soloists and the LT-choir set out on their own interpretation of Willibald Glucks musical drama
