KOVA ¬ GEOGRAPHIC TOOLS

LA VERONAL 2016

Kova ¬ Geographic Tools is the result of fusing codes of movement creation developed by La Veronal in the last five years, as a result of the search and combination of decisions which allow us to fill the darkness/freedom/vast possibilities which a dancer comes across with in the middle of their performance. On the basis of the pure abstraction, the form connects in space and time to try to generate/complicate/resolve the problems that it itself is provoking.

La Veronal works and keeps developing these mechanisms and systems on an ongoing basis.

“The fact that Kova forms a labyrinthine phraseology does not only imply that the movement dictated by this phraseology is especially rich in articulations, drifts, diversions, splits, branches, leaks; it implies that its internal logic, as in any other labyrinth, is at the same time certain and concealed by the overabundance, even by the redundancy of signs, of the indications given. Being an “intelligent” place by definition, the labyrinth is also a trap for the perception in which the view of the ensemble is hidden by a thousand partial perspectives, a thousand cut images, a thousand turns a labyrinth offers to anyone who crosses it.

Because of that, it can be said that the labyrinth is to the basic rules of construction what rhetoric is to grammar; and that if Kova generates such complicated constructs, so difficult to anyone who tries to decode them based on details, is because the grammar of Kova, which could wind a flat discourse, prefers to proliferate in phenomena of a high rhetorical concentration. It is a grammar not arising from the common language, but directly from poetry. And, even when the poet writes with the same grammar as the reporter or the scientist, the role of poetry is precisely this one: conceal labyrinthically (in the labyrinth of changing, evasive and always deceiving figures) that grammar; solved at a higher, more frenetic and dark level; loses its traces in the tangle of movement, where everything is similar because everything is different. Where, while we travel through the bends of the building, the “same place” seems to be another one; or where the “other place” seems to be the same.”
